Rare Signed Sammy and Esther Guardian Zuni New Mexico Native American Sterling Silver Abalone Gemstone Inlay Cardinal Pendant or Brooch. Was made to be used as a pendant or a brooch. Weighs 21.22 grams, pendant diameter is 2 inches. Features bold red cardinal inlaid with blue flowers with green leaves, brown stem, and enamel detailing, as well as stamped Native American design around the border. Signed/marked on back. Crafted by hand with Turquoise, Coral, Malachite, Onyx, and other gemstones, all inlaid in Sterling Silver. Zuni artists Esther and Sammy Guardian started producing jewelry in 1972 and are perhaps most famous for creating highly detailed, inlay animal and bird designs. The Guardian family are contemporaries of the Edaakie family and has work that is featured in many high end galleries and collections.
